Painting Information

FIELD PAINTING

If field painting is required over a Timely factory prefinished frame, please observe the following. Wipe the frame, using protective gloves, with a good cleaner whose use is allowed by local authorities. We strongly recommend rubbing all surfaces with a Scotch Brite (fine to medium pad) after cleaning. Wipe the frame so it is completely dry and dust free. The best adhesion is achieved by carefully preparing the base.  Painting should be done immediately after cleaning to prevent a dust build-up.

Due to the large variety of paints we recommend that a sample test is made prior to painting to assure paint compatibility and adhesion.

Painting when it’s too cold, too hot, or too humid can affect the drying process and could make the second coat of paint susceptible to blemishes. Please review paint instructions from the paint you are using.

Steel does not absorb paint like wood, you do not have to achieve full coverage on your first coat whether using a brush, roller, or a paint sprayer.

Apply at least two coats of paint to the frame allowing the necessary drying time between applications.

Our primer frame and prefinished frame require the same painting instructions.

FIRE-RATED FRAME PRECAUTIONS

DO NOT REMOVE THE FIRE LABEL. For field painting, you can paint over the removable laminate strip on the label or mask off the label and remove the mask after painting.
