General Information - Prefitting

Why do we recommend that doors be beveled on both the hinge and strike side?
We recommend beveling on the hinge and strike side to relieve the possibility of hinge binding. The bevel should be 3 degrees on both sides plus 3/16" clearance (3/32" each side).

If a frame was ordered as a 4" hinge emboss, can Timely re-punch over a 4" hinge emboss to make it a 4 1/2"?
No, it would crush the frame.

If you wanted to order a 6'8" frame for stock, what handing(s) would you need to order?
Since our 6'8" frame is totally reversible, you would not have to order it to hand. It would work for a right hand, left hand, left hand reverse or right hand reverse opening, except for dutch doors or with a frame that has a deadbolt strike emboss.

What does a right hand reverse mean to us?
Left hand swing.

To establish handing for the Timely frame, what is the one procedure we all use?
Push the door away from you always. Ex.: Door that swings to right is a right hand.

What is the net size of a 6-8 Timely frame?
6-8 3/16".

Why do we add a 3/16" clearance to our frame height?
3/16" is added to all our standard frame heights, 3/32" on top and 3/32" on bottom for clearance. Reason: So a 6'8" door could close in a 6'8" frame.

What is the recommended hinge depth and corners when machining doors?
1. 3 1/2" = 1/4" radius * or 3 1/2" is also available in 5/8" radius (must specify) *
2. 4" = 1/4" Radius *
3. 4 1/2" = square corner *

* = When machining doors, please refer to the hinge manufacturer.

When the hinge thickness exceeds the hinge and emboss on our frame, how do you compensate?
Dap the door deeper to make up the difference.

What is the correct backset on 1 3/8", 1 3/4" door?
1. 1 3/8" = 3/16"
2. 1 3/4" = 1/4"
