General Information - Framing/Rough Opening
If a customer is ordering a frame to be used full height with a 9'
ceiling, what is the recommended order height?
If the ceiling
is 9' high we need 1 3/4" for the face of the header and we need 1/4"
to arc the casing over the clip. The minimum we can get by with in most
cases, is 2" at the head. You should order a 8'10" frame
maximum.
What is the minimum stub wall required to
anchor the Timely frame? Also, what other requirements do we have for that
stub wall?
A minimum of 2" is required at each side of
the opening to anchor the frame. This stub wall must be solidly anchored
to the structure to guarantee that the frame is also anchored solidly. If
using steel studs, we recommend that you use 2 studs to form a box to
stiffen the stub wall. (Note: This is for use with TA-8, TA-23 and TA-28 casing, consult office
for stub wall dimensions for TA-30 and TA-35 casing)
What is the rough opening for a
3/0 x 7/0 frame with a 2 foot sidelite on both sides of the door?
You must allow 2" for each mullion plus the door area, plus glass
area, for a total of 88". The rough opening must be 1 1/4" over
the width for a total of 89 1/4". The rough opening for the height is
1" over for a total of 85" for the whole opening. Example: 24"
+ 2" + 36" + 2" + 24" + 1 1/4" = 89 1/4".
What would be the rough opening for a 3/0 x 6/8 door frame?
Although we ask for 1 1/4" over door width and 1" over
height making the ideal rough opening 37 1/4" x 81" we can get
by with 1" over door width if necessary.
What are
the minimum and maximum width and height tolerances for the rough opening?
Minimum Width 1"
Minimum Height 3/4"
Maximum
Width 1 1/2"
Maximum Height 1 1/4"
Note: All rough opening dimensions are measured from the finished floor.
