General Information - Borrowed Lites/Sidelites
What is a borrowed lite?
Any form of glazed opening in
a wall that does not include a door.
When a customer
orders a 3/0 x 4/0 borrowed lite frame, what is the net inside dimension
of our frame? What is the net glass size?
The net inside
dimension of our frame would be 36" x 48". The net glass size
would be 35 3/4" x 47 3/4" because the deduction in glass size
is 1/8" off each side (always verify with glass manufacturer). It's
important to note that the nominal size of our frame is exactly the
dimension called out. The dimension of the glass must be smaller to allow
for the proper clearance/expansion.
What is a sidelite?
A glazed area that is connected to a door opening.
What
is a mullion?
A mullion is a section of frame that divides
the opening between a door and a sidelite or a separate framed glazed
opening. (Always specify if mullion is being used horizontally or
vertically.
